Brad Berbells
brberb@uw.edu
Brad graduated in June 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington. After taking a kinematics and dynamics course taught by Dr. Kurt, he became interested in brain biomechanics and joined KurtLab. Brad was a key contributor to the UW–Seattle AISES Rocketry Club, where he served as the CAD Lead. He currently works as a Mechanical Engineer at Electroimpact Inc.

Sophie Walters
Sophie graduated in summer 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from the University of Washington. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a strong interest in the intersection of medical imaging and artificial intelligence after taking a Medical Imaging course and hearing a lecture by Dr. Kurt in her Artificial Intelligence in Bioengineering class. She was actively involved in the UW chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society, serving in leadership roles including President and Public Relations Chair.

Cynthia Pan
Cynthia graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and applied mathematics from the University of Washington. She joined the lab as a research intern with a strong interest in applying deep learning to medical imaging, focusing on neural network techniques for brain MRI segmentation. During her undergraduate studies, she also served as a lead teaching assistant for the CSE 12X series and contributed to the development of introductory computer programming courses.
